How do you divide the working time and childcare time between you in your family?
We both have very flexible times as I own my own company and my husband is freelance so we’re very close to 50/50 share on childcare. When one of us is working, the other is looking after the kids! Our oldest son goes to daycare Monday to Friday which gives us time to work during the week, and the little one is pretty easy so far.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=“1_2″][et_pb_text _builder_version=“3.0.71″]
So you are already working again?
Because I run my own company, it was very hard to stop working. I thankfully had a lot of help, my husband and my own mum were in town for two months to ease the transition. But yes, I am working again!

Have you discussed these issues as part of family planning? Or was it always clear for you both?
This is a discussion that we keep having and updating as our situation changes. It’s not always so clear, especially if both of us need to work at the same time! It is important that we talk about it often, so we are always on the same page and both still happy with the arrangement.

What is the standard model in New York, how do your friends with kids manage it?
Often in New York, both parents work and the kids go to daycare or have a full time nanny from a very young age. As young as three months because the maternity leave here can be very short. Depends on the company though…
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row background_repeat_1=“no-repeat“ background_repeat_2=“no-repeat“ _builder_version=“3.0.71″ background_size=“initial“ background_position=“top_left“ background_repeat=“repeat“][et_pb_column type=“2_3″][et_pb_image src=“https://mummy-mag.de/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/TheOriginalSwagroll_DiaperBag_Lifestyle_6.jpg“ _builder_version=“3.0.71″ /][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=“1_3″][et_pb_testimonial author=“Bianca Reis“ background_color=“#ffffff“ background_layout=“light“ _builder_version=“3.0.71″ use_border_color=“on“ border_color=“#e0c762″ border_width=“2px“ border_style=“dotted“ custom_margin=“80px|||-80px“]
Some companies do not even offer maternity leave in this country!

That means that the company decides how long you can stay at home with the children? Do you get any financial support in this time?
Some companies have set an amount of paid maternity leave, but it’s not very much. A lot of women combine their sick days and vacation days to make it longer. Some companies do not even offer maternity leave in this country!

What’s your advice so that it works with as little pain and frustration as possible?
To keep talking about it, would be my greatest advice. Some days I feel really good about being with the babies and some days I just need to be around adults! So as long as a nice balance can be maintained between two people, everyone will be more happy in the long run I think!
Thank you and all the best!
